島東譯電所 Decryption Room
Decryption Room is like a gallery dedicated to sharing life. The Panama-born owner likes to blend features of different cultures and decorate the place with elements that might normally seem out of place in such a shop. Everything there, from those elements to the snacks and drinks served, comes from his personal collection of objects and ideas that has grown since junior high school. The décor, changed at irregular intervals, has become a point of allure for customers. Besides promoting information on art, he looks to bring art closer to the creativity of everyday life.

Happening to walk by here in 2016, the future owner of Decryption Room was allured by the brick exterior of the building. Built in 1963, it served as the residence for the Taiwan Railway Administration police bureau chief, so it is full of history while emanating a mysterious tranquility. The owner would often drive by, occasionally just stand there silently looking at it, and sometimes even talk to it. In 2017, he decided to rent it and turn it into a place for both art/culture exhibitions and dining where people feel just as cozy as if they were at home.
